Addressing the effects of displacement, OFF SITE brings together nine artists who engage with methods of transference and re-combination. Working across painting, sculpture and installation, traditional modes of display are cited yet ultimately contested. Channels of information are refracted, altered by super-imposition and layering. Interweaving alternative narratives from iterations that otherwise remain implicit; jarring encounters of dissonant entities are personalized and cherished. Popular culture and personal histories interject as compendiums of mundane objects and images are compiled, revealing latent, unexpected associations. Suspending the ideal of the singular artist, homogeneity is circumvented in favour of creolisation. Tactility and collaboration are paramount: preconceptions of utility are outmoded by reinvention.
